What happens when the Y2K bug introduces a cute ride-on toy car to a 90's laptop?
-
For A24's movie Y2K, we worked with director Kyle Mooney and writer Evan Winter to design a range of killer robots, including Screenslayer - a self-assembled, ever evolving brute that has murder on its 233 Mhz mind.
-
The first evolution of Screenslayer combined a mechanical toy arm, a can of hairspray, and a lighter, turning the pink toy car into a flame-spewing menace tearing through a teenage house party. As the night progresses, it continuously assimilates new objects and technologies, growing larger, deadlier, and increasingly powerful.
-
No matter how monstrous Screenslayer becomes, its core design always remains rooted in the little pink toy car and the laptop, preserving a clear visual throughline from its first appearance to its final form.
