The Creator - Props

Back in 2019 we were approached by Gareth Edwards and his Producer Jim Spencer to discuss Gareth’s new project, The Creator. An original sci-fi property doesn’t come around often, and we jumped at the opportunity to provide early blue sky visuals, and eventually the design and manufacture of specialty props and costumes.

One of Gareth’s major philosophies from the outset was that he’d be shooting the film on-location, and digitally augmenting most of the footage in post-production. That said, the production still required physical props for the actors to interact with on set and on location.

Working closely with Gareth we designed a combination of bespoke, one-off props such as the medical headgear and NOMAD explosive, as well as a series of props using real-world items as a base and augmenting them. We would comb the internet for weird and interesting looking tools, hardware and techie looking gear that we could purchase off the shelf, and then customize them to bring them into this retro-futuristic world.
