Creature design for Jumanji was everything you would expect....fun! It was an awesome project to be involved in and director Jake Kasdan and VFX supervisor Mark Breakspear were great to work with.
The flying horse design was the most interesting design challenge. A Pegasus was certainly not what was wanted here. For a while the idea of some subtle visual clue that would hint at the wings later was part of the design problem. Trying to find an elegant solution to providing wings on a horse that weren't the classic bird wings, and that had a clever reveal the observant viewer might pick up on. Not all of this played out in the film but did provide a good time offering up potential solutions.
