Alien: Romulus

Being the 7th instalment in the franchise, 20th Century Studio’s ‘Alien: Romulus’ (2024) was a nostalgic return and homage to the look and feel that was established in the classic first ‘Alien’ (1979). Our design team worked with director Fede Álvarez across a number of briefs that would become practical builds for the shoot.
.
The first being subtle modifications to the iconic facehugger. We modelled up a concept originally designed by Dane Hallett - adding small sharp barbs to the legs, and playing with the colouring.
.
Next was sealing the facehugger in its cold storage cryoframe. Working with the proportion and design established by the art department, we gave the cryoframe a visual pass to help integrate it into the design-language of the ‘Alien’ world.
.
We also worked on early concepts for the F44AA Pulse Rifle. Trying various mechanisms to drive the auto aiming feature, while keeping the feel of the technology and weapon in-universe.
