Chartreuse and clay formality; quilted paracord functionality; two cultures, working side-by-side to defeat the Hollow Earth’s greatest antagonist.
Developing upon the world-building design of 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, we worked closely with costume designer Emily Seresin to design the material culture of both the Hollow Earth’s Iwi vestments, and the practical combat attire of Monarch’s Mission Suits.
For the Iwi male attendant and lady-in-waiting, we expressed their dignity and status in fine ceremonial jewellery, and clay facial markings, connected through the language markings of ancient patterning. Their high-fashion and religious inspired structured silk vestments express their formal yet delicate regal devotion; a life in service of a Titan.
For the Monarch mission suits, the exact opposite, where we explored a restrained and everyday practicality. Cutting edge, mass-produced, innovative in design, these quilted mesh panelling and buckled vests and bunker pants emphasise hard-wearing agility, comfort, and corporate paramilitary hierarchy - practical daily armour for battling giant monsters.
